Blossoming Friendship: Inside Ferryhill, Sedgefield & District Flower Club 🌸 Nestled in the heart of Sedgefield, County Durham, the Ferryhill, Sedgefield & District Flower Club is more than a gathering of floral enthusiasts—it’s a flourishing community rooted in creativity, camaraderie, and a shared love for the art of flower arranging. Meeting every third Tuesday of the month at 7:15 pm in the welcoming Sedgefield Parish Hall, the club offers a delightful escape into the world of blooms and botanical beauty. Each session is a celebration of colour and craftsmanship, often featuring NAFAS-trained demonstrators who inspire members with imaginative designs, expert techniques, or hands-on workshops that bring floral ideas to life. 🌼 A Community with Heart The club’s charm extends far beyond the petals. Members regularly host coffee mornings and social gatherings, bringing people together over shared passions—and generous slices of cake. These events not only raise funds for future activities but also nurture lasting friendships and a true sense of belonging. 🌿 Workshops for All From festive wreath-making to summer-themed centrepieces, the club’s workshops welcome everyone—from curious beginners to seasoned arrangers—to learn, create, and grow. There’s always something new to explore, making the club a dynamic hub for floral expression. 🌸 Our Club’s Beginning Our flower club started thanks to Cynthia Scott, who taught flower arranging at Dene Bank School. She had a big idea—to start a club in Ferryhill. With lots of energy and support, she held a Town Hall event, spread the word, and brought together a team. Kathleen Armstrong became the first Chairman.Cynthia had lots of experience and guided the club with care. As it grew, she suggested moving meetings to Sedgefield, where the club has done really well. That’s why we’re called the Ferryhill and Sedgefield Flower Club. She also started the Shildon Flower Club earlier, planning both clubs so members could go to each one. Today, Cynthia is still a special part of both clubs. She even helped design big flower festivals at Raby Castle and Durham Cathedral, where both clubs were involved. Her love for flowers lives on in everything we do.
